In our nursery school we welcome children between the ages of 1 and 5. We offer either a Swedish-French or an English-French education. In the respective groups, both languages are equal and each group has a Swedish or an English teacher, and a French teacher. Our goal is to provide a safe and creative environment for the children to develop their multilingualism. We adhere to the principle of “one teacher – one language” which means that each teacher speaks only his or her native tongue, which creates excellent opportunities for the children to develop both languages.

In our nursery school we focus on learning for life and to make learning a pleasure. We use the fundamental values and goals as they are contained in the Swedish national curriculum. We unite care and instruction in an all-day programme for all children. Focus is primarily on the development of the child’s linguistic and mathematical progress but social skills development has also a great importance in our activities. Through free play as well as more organized activities our children develop their languages and their social competences, hand in hand. Furthermore we concentrate on developing their capacity for play and for learning. To capture their natural curiosity of the world around them and to develop their instinctive creativity is for us an inherent part of what we do. All learning is built on the child’s own capacities and enthusiasm, and we are always working with the child at the core. We always start from the individual’s developmental level and previous experiences. Cooperation and teamwork is a natural part of our day and one of our strengths as a small school is that everyone knows everyone and the children feel very safe in the fact that they are never anonymous. Our nursery school is fun, safe and full of learning for all children.

Our focus is on the following areas for the respective age group:

1 year

The primary importance for our youngest students is of course that we provide a caring environment where the child feels safe and happy. On top of that we also strive to develop the capacities and competences that are mentioned in the following.

2-3 years

In collective groups and in routine situations the children develop:

Their linguistic skills through:

- Songs, rimes and riddles, finger games,

- Reading and telling,

- Encouragement to speak and express themselves,

- Working with simple wordpicures, for example their names.

Their mathematic skills through:

- Mathematical rimes and riddles,

- Knowing numbers, for example knowing how many three are,

- Familiarisation with simple mathematical notions, such as small-big, similar-different and shapes,

- Problem solving such as sharing and dividing,

- Knowing concepts of time, such as before-after, yesterday-today-tomorrow.

4-5 years

In collective groups and in routine situations the children develop:

1) Their linguistic skills through:

- Rimes, recognition of the sounds of letters, clapping of syllables,

- Re-telling of stories,

- Making their own stories and texts,

- Recognizing letters and connecting letters with sounds.

Their mathematic skills through:

- Recognizing an image of numbers and connecting this to a number and a figure,

- Using more and more mathematical concepts such as geometrical forms, patterns and symmetries,

- Problem solving trough concrete tasks and stories with mathematics,

- Using more and more concepts of time – days of the week, months, and seasons.

Through rhythmic and movement we develop motor skills, coordination and perception of ones physical self.

In our nursery school we strive to develop an interest and understanding of Mother Nature. We do this through observing the seasons and how nature changes throughout the year. We study animals and plants in our immediate environment and familiarise ourselves with the various cycles of life.

For more detailed information about our education, please request the national curriculum Lpfö98 as well as the Swedish School’s detailed work plan.

The nursery school is open all year from 8 am-6.30 pm. Please also see the application form for more information.
